Gordon Hensley, Professional Face Painter

I LOVE painting faces and having fun while doing it-- one of my favorite things in life is watching a youngster look in the mirror after I've painted them as a princess or a monster.  That moment makes my day!

I hold three international face painting awards. My makeup credits include 5 years as the lead designer and makeup artist for Tweetsie Railroad's Ghost Train, Miss America's South Carolina Pageant, Snow White, The Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe, working as a local makeup/hair artisan for over 6 national Broadway tours, and many more. I have a B.S. in Teaching Theatre Grades K-12, and a M.F.A. in Theatre. I teach creative drama and makeup courses at Appalachian State University.

As an artist my primary goal is safety-- for all involved. I want the clients to feel good about themselves, and know that my paint has been applied in a sanitary and safe way. I ONLY use FDA approved products. Second to safety is experience. I want my clients to have a pleasant experience-- before, during, and after the application. Every client I paint begins with an introduction.

Why choose face painting for your event?
Fun - Let's face it. Having your face painted is just plain all-American good clean fun!
Attention - When a child is sitting in the chair, we are completely focused on them.
Creativity - When kids choose their special design, they take command of their creativity.
Expression - Anything goes! Face Painting is a great way to express individuality in a crowd.

The paint:
As a face and body painter, my primary goal is safety-- for all involved. I will NEVER use acrylic or hazardous paint on you or your children. I only use paints designed for use on the face. I also use glitter that is specially designed for cosmetic use. I sterilize brushes between guests. If there are questions about allergic reactions to the face paints, a patch test is offered.

The time:
My half faces and full faces can take 5-10 minutes to paint, which means I average about 8-20 faces per hour. My work is focused so I am unable to attend to unsupervised children who may be waiting in line and cannot discipline or supervise them.

The requirements:
I need a dedicated electric outlet within a few feet, ample lighting, and a 10x10 or 12x12 space (a 6x6 space works for private parties). I can provide everything else.

PAST CLIENT COMMENTS:

Gordon has painted faces at our conference since 2001. He is a favorite of the students who attend. It is not unusual for Gordon to give up his lunch break in order to work with students who needextra coaching. Our board of directors takes great care to select teachers and artists who are outstanding in their field and who can relate to the needs of high school age students. Gordon clearly fits the bill. He has been described on student evaluations as "the best workshop presenter ever", "motivational", and "phenomenal”. We plan on inviting him back again this year. Frank Bluestein - Tennessee Thespian Festival

I have hired Gordon Hensley to paint faces at our annual "National Night Out" street festival every year since 2011. We host over 2,000 people and many of them are children since our festival is geared toward youth. Gordon's work is fast and professional and he is great with the kids. Each year there is a line and many of them are excited that Gordon has returned. He has professional training in painting faces and with young people; it shows. Beyond being a great face painter, Gordon is easy to work with, understands the culture of the High Country, and is youthful and fun. I highly recommend him for parties and fairs/festivals--- as long as it doesn't conflict with ours! - Sgt. Kellie Mann Marion Police Department

Gordon worked at Tweetsie Railroad in Blowing Rock, NC as the instructor & lead for our Ghost Train Face-painting team from 2005 through 2010. Gordon was very pleasant to work with, being flexible to the many rapid changes any theatrical performance can generate, while maintaining high professional standards. His skills as an instructor were excellent. Gordon himself set the pace & standard, which were superb. They painted around 70 face in 2 hours each night. He painted all of the most difficult & detailed characterizations efficiently with great skill, while giving encouragement and additional instruction to his team members as needed. I felt he was by far the most skilled air-brush artist I worked with, as well as the most co-operative team worker I had the privilege to work with. - Malin Wellman Fantasy’s Reality Costumes
